Historical Context
The MacAulay tartan boasts a rich heritage, linked to two distinct MacAulay families. One lineage emerged around the 13th century in Ardincaple, forming part of Clan Alpine and aligning with the MacGregor clan in 1591. Their lands were transferred to the Duke of Argyll in 1787. The second MacAulay family on the Isle of Lewis traces its descent from the MacLeods and claims lineage to Aula, or "Olave The Black," who reigned in the 13th century as King of Mann and the Isles. Additionally, the MacAulay name is associated with a town in the Highland mainland under Clan MacKenzie, highlighting the tartan's deep-rooted significance in Scottish history.
Color Scheme and Pattern
The MacAulay tartan features a striking color scheme with a vibrant red background symbolizing youth and vitality, contrasted with dark green representing prosperity and harmony. The incorporation of black lines adds depth and sophistication, making this tartan a timeless choice for stylish garments. Crafted from 100% acrylic wool, it ensures durability and comfort, allowing you to wear it with ease and confidence.
