Contemporary Kilts
Contemporary kilts take the traditional shape and strip out the formality. Lighter construction, slimmer pleating, modern hardware and cuts made for walking around a city rather than standing at an altar. You still choose a real sett and you still get proper wrap construction with buckles at the side, but the whole garment sits easier and asks less of the occasion. This is the kilt for someone who wants to wear one on a Tuesday. Choose your tartan at checkout and have it cut to your own waist, hip and length. The construction differences are specific rather than cosmetic. Shallower pleat depth means less cloth and a flatter drape. Lighter weight cloth moves more freely and packs smaller. Hardware is chosen to look current rather than ceremonial. What does not change is the waist at the navel and the hem at mid kneecap, because those two proportions are what make any kilt read correctly rather than looking like a wrapped skirt.
