Kilt Flashes and Socks
Kilt hose and flashes, the pieces that finish the leg. Hose are knitted thicker and longer than ordinary socks so they hold a fold at the top, with the cuff finishing two to three fingers below the kneecap. Flashes are tabs of coloured or tartan cloth on an elastic garter worn under that fold, showing about two inches on the outside of the calf. Cream, black and colours pulled from your sett. Ordinary knee socks are too thin to hold that fold and slip within an hour. Flashes come in solid colours and in tartan. Solid, pulled from one colour in your sett, reads cleaner than tartan flashes, which mainly suit formal and pipe band wear.
