High-Waisted Plaid Skirts
High-waisted skirts sit at the natural waist, roughly level with the navel and well above where jeans sit. That places the horizontal lines of the tartan at the narrowest point of the torso rather than across the hip, which is why the same sett reads completely differently in a high rise. Send your natural waist measurement rather than a dress size, since the whole effect depends on the waistband landing correctly. Find your natural waist by bending sideways and feeling where the torso creases, which is usually higher than expected. Measure there over a thin layer and take the finished length from that same point rather than from your hip, since length measured from the wrong start point is the commonest ordering error we see. If the waistband gapes at the back, a small dart taken in by any tailor fixes it in minutes.
