Flannel Shirts
Flannel is a finish rather than a pattern. The cloth is brushed after weaving to raise a soft nap, which traps air and makes it noticeably warmer than a plain shirt of the same weight. Ours come in check and tartan patterns, cut generously enough to layer over a tee and under a jacket. Cut to your own chest, sleeve and body length. Wash cool and expect it to soften considerably over the first few months. Flannel is a finish rather than a pattern. It softens with every wash, so the shirt you own in year three is better than the one you bought. Avoid fabric softener, which coats the nap and makes an old flannel feel slick rather than soft.
