Tartan Plaid Scarfs

A scarf is the easiest way to wear a family tartan, because it carries the full sett at a visible scale, costs a fraction of a garment, works over ordinary clothes and needs no sizing decision. For most people who want their tartan and nothing more, this is where it starts and finishes. Standard neck scarves run around ten to twelve inches wide and sixty to seventy inches long, which is enough to drape, loop or wrap. How you wear it changes how loud it reads.
