Heritage shouldn't be a luxury purchase
Scottish Kilt makes custom Highland dress for the Scottish-American diaspora — 5,000+ tartans, every piece cut and pleated to your measurements. Designed in Virginia. Hand-crafted in our own workshops.
Millions of Americans have a tartan. Few have ever worn it.
Tens of millions of Americans carry Scottish ancestry — a surname, a clan history, a tartan that belongs to their family. But traditional heritage-mill kiltmaking prices most of them out: a single formal kilt can cost more than a month's rent, and "your" tartan is often only available if a mill decides to weave it.
We started Scottish Kilt in 2012 to close that gap. Not by cutting corners — by cutting out everyone standing between the person who wants a kilt and the people who make one.
Facility-direct, made to measure
We don't outsource. Our kilts, jackets, and Highland wear are made in our own workshops, by a team we've built and kept — 98% of our makers have been with us since founding. Our office in Virginia handles design and customer care; our workshops handle the cut, the pleat, and the stitch.
Owning the whole process is what lets us do things heritage retailers can't: weave-to-order across 5,000+ tartans, make every piece to the customer's exact measurements, and hold prices where a first kilt is a realistic purchase — not a once-in-a-lifetime splurge.
Woven tartan — never printed
We're straightforward about our fabric. Our tartans are authentically woven acrylic cloth, not printed imitations. Woven acrylic holds a pleat sharply, keeps its colour wash after wash, resists creasing, and handles hot climates far better than heavyweight heritage cloth — at a fraction of the price. It's the honest choice for a kilt that gets worn, not stored.
From the casual 5-yard kilt to the full 9-yard traditional and complete Highland outfits, every piece is hand-pleated to order. Not sure where to start? Our kilt buying guide settles it in a minute, and the measuring guide makes sure it fits.
