Historical Significance
The Buchan family boasts a rich history dating back to the early 1200s, with Ricardes de Buchan documented as early as 1207. A staunch Jacobite family, they supported the Stewart cause, with Major-General Thomas Buchan leading King James II’s forces during the 1689 rebellions. The clan's chief resides at Auchmacoy, and their tartan is derived from the Cumming clan, to whom they are related. The clan crest features a sun shining on a sunflower, symbolizing their motto, "Non Inferiora Secutus" or "Not having followed mean pursuits." The Buchans have a long-standing connection with the Cummings, starting with the marriage of Margaret, daughter of King Edgar, to William Comyn in 1210. Their legacy is deeply intertwined with Scottish heritage.
Color Scheme & Pattern
This tartan features a bold and striking design with a vibrant turquoise green, rich red, black, and fine blue color palette that symbolizes the natural beauty of the Scottish countryside. The pattern is accented by Rich red stripes that add energy and warmth, creating a dynamic contrast with the green. Black stripes interwoven throughout, providing depth and a strong, defined structure to the design. Fine blue lines that add a delicate touch of coolness. The combination of these colors creates a harmonious and visually appealing tartan, perfect for showcasing both tradition and modern flair. Made from 100% acrylic wool, this tartan ensures durability and comfort.
