The origins of Clan Skene trace back to the 11th century, woven with a legendary tale involving the Robertson clan. According to tradition, a younger son of the Robertson chief of Struan saved the life of the Scottish king by bravely slaying a wild wolf with only a small dagger, or "sgian-dubh." In recognition, the king granted him land and the name "Skene," meaning "dagger" in Gaelic. The Skene Tartan features dark green, red, and royal blue lines.
