What is handfasting?
An old Scottish ritual in which the couple's hands are bound together with cords or cloth, symbolising their union. It is the origin of the phrase tying the knot.
Can we combine two clan tartans?
Yes. We can weave or pair both families' setts so neither is lost, or you can choose one clan's tartan or a universal sett.
What is the difference between cords and a cloth?
Cords are narrow and used to bind the hands; a cloth is wider and can be draped over the joined hands. Some couples use both.
Can we keep the tartan afterwards?
Yes. Many couples keep the cloth as a memento or have it made into a shawl or wrap.
How long are the cords?
We can advise on length for your ceremony; tell us how the officiant plans to bind the hands.
How early should we order?
Allow 2 to 4 weeks plus shipping, longer if we are combining two custom setts.
Do you ship unity tartan internationally?
Yes, worldwide with tracking.
