Three broad types. Full tartan across the whole garment, panel designs with tartan on the hood, sleeves or shoulders against a plain body, and plain hoodies with a tartan lined hood or trim. Panel and trim designs are far easier to wear day to day than a full sett is.
Panel, for most people. A full tartan hoodie is a strong statement and gets worn a handful of times a year. A panel or lined design carries the sett as a detail and gets worn every week. If you want your clan tartan on something you will actually reach for, take the panel version.
Yes, on the styles where the tartan is a chosen element rather than a fixed design. Set your sett at checkout on those items. If your family tartan is not listed, send us the name and we will check it, since spelling variants and sept names account for most of the tartans people think do not exist.
Cotton rich fleece backed jersey for the body, with premium acrylic tartan panels where the design uses them. Cut relaxed rather than fitted, so take your usual size unless you want it oversized. Wash cool and inside out, which protects both the print free tartan panels and the drawcord hardware.
Wash cold, inside out, and dry away from direct sun. Sunlight fades dyed cloth faster than washing does, so line drying in strong sun is the main culprit. Avoid fabric softener, which coats fibres and dulls colour over time. Do not tumble dry, since heat is hardest on the panel seams. For a matching lower half, see tartan joggers.
Yes, if you choose a panel or trim design rather than a full clan sett. Universal, district and fashion tartans belong to nobody in particular, so they carry no risk of getting a family connection wrong. If you want their clan specifically, ask someone in the family first rather than guessing from a surname. The same panel approach runs through tartan panel hoodies.
