Sustainability at Scottish Kilt is not a marketing page. It is how our workshops run. Because we own them end to end, we control the energy that powers them, the fabric that leaves them, and the livelihoods inside them.
We own the chain, so we answer for it
Every kilt is made in workshops we own outright. No third parties, no subcontracting, and no agents between us and the people who make your kilt. That means we choose the materials, set the working conditions, and account for the waste ourselves. Most brands in this category cannot say the same, because they buy finished garments from suppliers they have never visited.

Solar on the production floor
Our manufacturing facility runs on solar panels, renewable energy across the production floor, cutting our carbon footprint without cutting output.
Every scrap gets a second life
Tartan offcuts are not binned. Leftover cloth goes to small home businesses that turn it into wristbands, trims and accessories, reducing waste and supporting the micro-economy around our workshops.
Fair labor, proven by retention
98% of our team has been with us since our founding in 2012. Fair wages, safe conditions, and long-term careers. Our makers are the Scottish Kilt team, and the retention number is the audit.
Ethical, facility-direct sourcing
With no third-party factories in the chain, we choose our own materials and stand behind how they are handled, from woven tartan cloth to hardware and thread.
Funding education, not just jobs
Beyond the workshop, we fund education programs that give people access to affordable digital learning and career advancement, investing in the communities our team comes from.

Built to be worn, not replaced
Our tartan is woven acrylic. It is not a natural fiber, and we do not claim otherwise. What it does is hold a pleat, keep its color through years of washing, and resist the wear that sends garments to landfill. A kilt worn for twenty years beats a natural-fiber one worn for two.
