Sustainability at Scottish Kilt isn't a marketing page — it's how our facility runs. Because we own our workshops end to end, we control the energy that powers them, the fabric that leaves them, and the livelihoods inside them.
Honest about where and how we make
Our name is Scottish; our making is not. Every kilt is crafted in our own facility in Pakistan, with design and customer care run from Virginia, USA. Manufacturing in Edinburgh would make custom kilts at fair prices impossible — so instead of hiding our supply chain, we own it outright. No third parties, no subcontracting, and full control over materials, working conditions, and waste. That control is what makes everything below possible.
What we actually do
A solar-powered facility
Our manufacturing facility runs on solar panels — renewable energy across the production floor, cutting our carbon footprint without cutting output.
Every scrap gets a second life
Tartan offcuts aren't binned. Leftover cloth is passed to small home businesses that turn it into wristbands, trims, and accessories — reducing waste while feeding the local micro-economy around our workshops.
Fair labor, proven by retention
98% of our team has been with us since our founding in 2012. Fair wages, safe conditions, and long-term careers — our makers are the Scottish Kilt family, and the retention number is the audit.
Ethical, facility-direct sourcing
With no third-party factories in the chain, we choose our own materials and stand behind how they're handled — from woven tartan cloth to hardware and thread.
Funding education, not just jobs
Beyond the workshop, we fund education programs that give people access to affordable digital learning and career advancement — investing in the communities our team comes from.
