The Galbraith Tartan, with origins in the Scottish Highlands, is associated with the 12th-century hero Gilbride, the clan's legendary ancestor. Throughout history, the Galbraiths were involved in conflicts with clans like the MacGregors and Campbells and supported Robert the Bruce during the Scottish Wars of Independence. Known also as the Russell, Mitchell, and Hunter tartans, its official name comes from the Highland Society of London archives.
