The cummerbund covers the waistband where a jacket opens, and it is the correct choice when there is no waistcoat underneath. If he wears a waistcoat, leave the cummerbund in the box for the next event rather than layering the two.Pleats face upward. A cummerbund is worn with the folds opening toward the ceiling, which is the detail most people get wrong the first time.
