How to Wear a Kilt Pin
What the kilt pin is for, and exactly where it goes.
Kilt pins transcend mere adornment, serving a practical purpose by securing the front apron of the kilt against the caprices of the wind. Far from revealing one's adherence to traditional undergarment customs, these pins are emblematic of heritage and status.
Adorned with clan symbols, national icons, or motifs of native flora and fauna, kilt pins also historically signified wealth — the more elaborate the pin, the greater the indication of affluence.
The traditional placement of a kilt pin is on the right side, affixed to the front apron approximately 4 inches from the kilt's bottom and 2 inches from the side fringe. Take care to pin it solely through the front apron to avoid damaging the kilt's layers.
For those wishing to wear a piece of their heritage, our collection includes Clan Crest Kilt Pins, featuring over 100 clan crests alongside iconic symbols like the Scottish Thistle, Lion Rampant and Saltire.
