How to Measure for Curtains
Measure your track or pole for a perfect tartan curtain drop.
- Install your track or pole before measuring — measure the track or pole, not the window.
- Use a metal tape measure for accuracy; cloth or plastic tapes may stretch.
- Double-check every measurement, and record full centimetres (round down).
- Extend the track or pole about 15 cm beyond the window on each side so curtains can be drawn back.
Width
- Pole: measure between the decorative finials.
- Track: measure end to end, including any overlap in the middle.
- Tab-Headed Curtains: extend the pole about 30 cm either side for optimal light.
Drop
- Pole: measure from the underside of the curtain rings.
- Eyelet Curtains: measure from the top of the pole, adding 4 cm for visibility.
- Track: measure from the top of the track.
- Lengths: 1 cm above the sill (sill length), your chosen point (below-sill), or 1 cm above the floor (full length).
Dress your windows in tartan.
