The Robertson tartan is associated with Clan Robertson, one of the oldest clans in Scotland, with origins dating back to the Celtic Earls of Atholl. Clan Robertson, also known as Clan Donnachaidh, is renowned for its loyalty to the Scottish crown, particularly for sheltering King Robert the Bruce after the Battle of Methven in 1306.
The candy apple red that serves as the primary color of this kilt makes it stand out boldly. The second most prominent color throughout is the deep navy blue-tinged forest green squares.
