Historical Significance
The Fraser of Lovat Tartan unveils the captivating history of the Fraser clan. With Sir Simon Fraser as a central figure, the lineage emerged through his marriage to acquire the Bisset Lands, including Beauly. Expanding their influence in 1511, they obtained Stratherrick and established Beaufort Castle, symbolizing their prominence. This tartan reflects the turbulent times faced by the Lovat Frasers. In the decisive Battle of the Field of Shirts in 1544, they fiercely clashed with the MacDonalds of Clanranald, enduring losses but multiplying in branches like Fingask, Reelig, and Inverallochy, solidifying their enduring legacy. Throughout Scottish history, they exhibited unwavering loyalty, fighting valiantly in the infamous Culloden Moor battle of 1746 alongside their Highland comrades. However, Cumberland and his troops ravaged their estates as a consequence. They played a crucial role in Highland regiments during conflicts such as the American War of Independence, Quebec, the Napoleonic Wars, the Boer War, and both World Wars, with their unwavering spirit and courage securing their place in history.
