Historical Significance
The Clark Ancient Tartan has its roots in Scotland's rich tapestry of culture and history. Initially, the term "Clark" denoted an individual associated with the religious community or those engaged in scholarly pursuits, such as scribes. By the early 15th century, the name evolved from describing an occupation to becoming a family surname, notably represented by figures like Robert Clark, a shipmaster from Leith. The Clark family, known for their tradesmanship, became integral members of various clans throughout the Lowlands, weaving their legacy into the very fabric of Scottish society.
