The present chief The current chief is Andrew Douglas Alexander Thomas Bruce 11th Earl Elgin. The Bruces descend from a Norman Knight who arrived in England along with William the Conqueror in 1066. Sir Robert de Brus, Knight who was with William the Conqueror into England is the ancestor of this family. Robert de Brus, his son Robert de Brus, was the Companion-at Arms of Prince David and later King of Scots who was granted his Lordship in Annandale.
Robert who was the 4th Lord got married to an aunt from William the Lion and on this marriage was on the claim that the 7th Lord of Annandale and the third of Carrick were crowned the King Robert the Bruce. His decisive triumph against his fellow English during the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 finally brought independence to Scotland. The Bruce of Clack Mannan descends to the Earl of Elgin and is currently the head of the family. Bruce Tartan is suited for any occasion and event.
