Historical Context
The Clan Strathearn is a distinguished Scottish clan with origins tracing back to the early medieval period. Named after the Strathearn region in central Scotland, its roots are steeped in mystery, with legends suggesting a Celtic prince named Caibre as its progenitor in the 6th century. A pivotal moment in its history occurred when the Duke of Kent, father of Queen Victoria, reportedly adopted the Strathearn Tartan during his service as Colonel of the Royal Scots from 1801 to 1821. This tartan, recognized as a District Tartan, derives its name from the former Stewartry of Strathearn in Perthshire. Additionally, notable figures like Malise, Earl of Strathearn, played significant roles in Scotland's political landscape during the 13th century, further enriching the clan's historical significance.
