Historical Context
The Scott Tartan holds a significant place in Scottish history, tracing its origins back to the 12th century. It is associated with the Scott family, notably Uchtred 'Filius Scott', one of the earliest recorded bearers of the name. Over the centuries, the family acquired estates such as Murthockstone and Rankilburn, and the name Buccleuch became synonymous with their lands after Sir Richard Scott constructed a house there. The Scott family rose to prominence, especially Sir Walter Scott of Buccleuch, who played a crucial role in the Borders region, engaging in notable feuds and battles, including the infamous conflict with the Kerrs of Cessford at Pinkie. The legacy of the Scott family continues, particularly evident in their impressive art collection displayed at various ancestral homes.
Color Scheme and Pattern
The Scott Tartan features a striking color scheme of red, green, white, and black. Each color symbolizes various aspects of the Scott family's heritage:
- Red: Represents strength and valor.
- Green: Symbolizes the lush landscapes of Scotland.
- White: Denotes purity and peace.
- Black: Reflects resilience and protection.
This intricate pattern serves as a testament to the noble heritage of the Scott family, celebrating their proud Scottish identity. Made from 100% acrylic wool, the Scott Tartan is designed for durability and comfort.
