Historical Context
Discover the ancient heritage of the Robertson of Struan Tartan, rooted in the noble house of Duncan I and the Earls of Atholl. This tartan symbolizes the heroic support of Robert the Bruce at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, weaving together tales of valiant warriors and unwavering loyalty. The Robertson lineage traces back to Crinan, Lord of Atholl, with Duncan, known as Donnchadh Reamhar, being a key supporter of Robert the Bruce. The Robertsons of Struan continued their legacy by capturing the murderers of King James I, receiving a crest badge from James II, and elevating their lands to the prestigious Barony of Struan. Despite turbulent times, the Robertsons stood firm with the Marquess of Montrose during the Scottish Civil War and participated in the Jacobite risings of 1689, 1715, and 1745. Their courage and resilience have endured through generations.
Tartan Description
Rich in color and steeped in tradition, the Robertson of Struan Tartan features deep green and navy blue hues with thin dull red stripes. The dark green symbolizes the lush landscapes of Scotland, while the navy blue reflects the loyalty and strength of the Robertson clan. The thin red stripes can be interpreted as a nod to the blood shed by the clan's ancestors in their numerous battles for Scotland's freedom. Made of high-quality acrylic wool, this fabric combines durability and comfort, making it perfect for traditional garments such as kilts and skirts. The tartan drapes beautifully and maintains its shape, providing a timeless and practical choice for any occasion.
