The Robert Gordon University Tartan, crafted in 1997 by Michael King of Philip King Kiltmakers in Aberdeen, is more than just fabric; it's a symbol of pride and tradition. Unlike many tartans steeped in ancient clan history, this modern design celebrates academic achievement and unity. Its creation was inspired by the need to embody the spirit of the university, reflecting its official colors and serving as a visual representation of the institution's identity. Royal Blue, Red, and Gold weave through the fabric, mirroring the university's vibrant energy and its commitment to excellence. Popular among students, particularly on graduation day, this tartan has become a significant part of university life, often featured in various university-related merchandise. It stands as a testament to the modern traditions that can grow and flourish alongside historical ones, creating new legacies.
The tartan itself presents a captivating visual story. Set against a light blue background, the pattern boasts bold thick black stripes that intersect with thinner red and yellow lines, creating a striking contrast. This vibrant combination not only reflects the university’s official colors but also adds a contemporary flair that appeals to both young and old. The acrylic wool fabric ensures durability and comfort, making it suitable for various accessories and attire tailored to embrace Scottish tradition with a modern twist.
At Scottish Kilt, we take pride in offering an extensive range of products that celebrate the rich heritage of Scottish culture. From traditional kilts to contemporary skirts, and from tartan fabrics to essential accessories like hats, fly plaids, sporrans, and kilt flashes, our collection is designed to meet the needs of both aficionados and newcomers to Scottish attire.
