Historical Context
Dive into the storied past of the MacRae Of Conchra Tartan, a symbol of resilience and pride that traces back to the early 18th century. The saga begins with John MacRae of Conchra, a stalwart supporter of the Jacobite cause, who in 1715, took up arms in the rebellion aimed at restoring the Stuarts to the British throne. During their arduous march, clan members were gifted a web of tartan cloth by local residents, a gesture to replace their tattered hose. This very cloth laid the cornerstone for what would later be known as the MacRae Of Conchra Tartan. Holding onto its roots through tumultuous times, a fragment of this original tartan cloth remained in the family's possession until the late 19th century. Although lost before it could be formally documented in D.W. Stewart's "Old & Rare Scottish Tartans" (1893), its essence was captured just in time. Cemented in history yet embracing evolution, the tartan has been officially registered and boasts modern interpretations—Ancient and Modern—each sharing the original's foundational spirit but varying in color intensity and fabric weight.
Color Scheme and Pattern
Crafted on an off-white background, the MacRae Of Conchra Tartan is adorned with stripes of blue, red, and yellow, creating a visual symphony that resonates with the valiant tales of the past. Each stripe and color meticulously placed represents a chapter of the saga, woven into the fabric to carry the legacy forward. This tartan, while deeply rooted in history, is fashioned from acrylic wool, offering durability and comfort.
