Historical Context
Clan MacAulay, originally from Dumbartonshire, is traditionally recognized as a Highland clan despite its border location between the Highlands and Lowlands. First recorded in the 1600s, the clan's activity waned after the death of Aulay MacAulay in the mid-18th century. Known as one of the seven clans of Siol Alpin, claiming descent from Cináed mac Ailpín, the first King of Scotland, MacAulay's motto is "Dulce Periculum" (Danger is Sweet), and their crest features a boot and spur. After a period of dormancy and feuding, the Clan MacAulay Association was re-established on April 25, 1998. This organization unites MacAulays from Ardincaple, Lochbroom, the Hebrides, and Northern Ireland, aiming to celebrate and connect with their rich heritage and global community.
