Historical Context
The Lumsden Tartan has its roots in a rich lineage that dates back to 1098, when the Manor of Lumsdene was first mentioned. Established by Edgar, King of Scots, alongside his parents, Malcolm III and Margaret, the Coldingham Priory was entrusted with the surrounding towns, including Lumsdene. The earliest recorded owners, Gillem and Cren de Lummisden, signed a charter with the Priory between 1166 and 1182. Adam de Lumisden, believed to be the ancestor of the Lumsdens of the Ilk, along with his brother Roger, paid tribute to Edward I of England in 1296, marking their significance in Scottish history. The Lumsden Tartan symbolizes this deep heritage and remains suitable for any occasion, reflecting both elegance and tradition.
Color Scheme and Pattern
The Lumsden Tartan features a captivating color scheme characterized by navy blue, white, red, and green hues. The navy blue serves as a strong foundation, while the white adds brightness, creating a striking contrast. The red and green elements symbolize passion and prosperity, respectively, balancing the tartan's overall aesthetic. Made from 100% acrylic wool, this tartan ensures durability and comfort, making it an ideal choice for a variety of garments.
