The surname 'Guthrie' likely originates from a Gaelic term meaning "windy place," with the first recorded mention of Squire Guthrie in 1303. Their estate was granted through a charter from King David II, and they contributed notably to Scottish heritage, including Sir David Guthrie's roles as Armour-Bearer to King James III and Lord Treasurer.
