Historical Significance
The Freemasons Universal Tartan was designed in 2004 by Anne Carroll Gilmour, the wife of a Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Utah. With her Scottish and Irish heritage, Gilmour aimed to create a tartan that represents the global fraternity of Freemasonry. Similar to other tartans that signify the unity of Scottish clans, the Freemasons Universal Tartan is intended to unify Masons worldwide under a common emblem. Registered with the International Tartan Index, it is notably one of the few Masonic tartans not associated with a specific lodge or Grand Lodge, but instead meant for all Freemasons globally. Its origins trace back to the 19th century, believed to have emerged as a way for Freemasons to express their allegiance and identity.
Color Scheme & Pattern
The Freemasons Universal Tartan is a striking and meaningful pattern that reflects tradition and symbolism. This tartan features a combination of deep blue, vibrant purple, black, red, yellow, and white. The deep blue represents loyalty and trust, while the rich purple signifies wisdom and dignity. Black adds depth and strength to the design, with red lines symbolizing passion and energy. Yellow stripes bring a touch of brightness and positivity, and the white lines represent purity and truth. Together, these colors create a dynamic and elegant tartan, perfect for celebrating Masonic heritage and values. Made from 100% acrylic wool, this tartan offers durability and comfort, suitable for both formal and casual occasions.
