Historical Significance
Delve into the rich heritage of the Erskine Ancient Tartan, a fabric woven with threads of Scottish history. Originating in the 13th century, it traces back to Henry Erskine and the Barony of Erskine. The Clan Erskine demonstrated unwavering loyalty to King Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence. Sir Robert Erskine claimed the title of Earl of Mar in 1435, becoming Chief of Clan Mar. However, a royal decree in 1457 stripped him of his earldom. The 4th Lord Erskine fearlessly led the Clan into battle at Flodden Field in 1513, sacrificing his life. Centuries later, the 6th Lord Erskine rose to the rank of Earl of Mar, bestowed by Mary Queen of Scots. During the Jacobite rebellion, the 22nd Earl of Mar, John Erskine, fervently supported the cause but betrayed his comrades at the Battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715. In 1842, the Sobieski brothers' Vestiarium Scoticum immortalized the Clan tartan. Symbolizing the ancestral lands on the southern banks of the River Clyde, this tartan embodies the enduring spirit and lush landscapes of their noble history.
Color Scheme & Pattern
This tartan features a bold and vibrant pattern with dominant colors of bright orange and deep green. The bright orange represents energy and warmth, creating a striking visual impact, while the rich brown symbolizes stability and the earthy tones of the Scottish Highlands. The deep green adds a sense of balance and connection to nature. The combination of these colors, with the classic tartan crisscross pattern, creates a unique and dynamic design that stands out. Made from 100% acrylic wool, this tartan is both durable and comfortable, making it suitable for a variety of occasions, from casual wear to traditional celebrations.
