Historical Context
The Campbell Of Lochawe Tartan is steeped in the rich history of Clan Campbell, a formidable force in the West of Scotland and Argyllshire. This clan traces its origins back to the 13th century when Diarmid, the clan’s forebear, was granted the Lordship of Lochow. Colin Campbell of Lochow, a notable ancestor, was knighted around 1280 and his lineage later produced influential chiefs, including the Earls of Argyll. The clan's involvement in significant historical events is notable, such as the execution of the 9th Earl in 1685 for his role in the Monmouth Rebellion and the conferment of a Dukedom by William of Orange in 1701 to the 10th Earl. The Campbells played a vital role in Scottish state affairs, holding prominent positions that shaped the region's history.
Color Scheme and Pattern
The Campbell Of Lochawe Tartan showcases a striking design primarily featuring black and deep green with blue accents. The dominant black squares symbolize the strength and enduring legacy of the Campbell clan, while the rich green echoes the lush landscapes of the Scottish Highlands. The blue stripes provide a vibrant contrast within the classic grid pattern, creating a visually balanced and harmonious design. Made from 100% acrylic wool, the fabric combines durability with comfort, making it ideal for traditional garments such as kilts, jackets, and scarves. This tartan's elegant simplicity and classic palette make it a timeless choice for those honoring their Scottish heritage.
