Historical Context
Clan Campbell wielded significant power in the West of Scotland, particularly in Argyllshire. Known by the name of Diarmid, the clan was granted the Lordship of Lochow in the 13th century, marking the beginning of their influence. Colin Campbell of Lochow, the progenitor of the Argyll Campbells, was knighted around 1280, and his descendants continued to rise in prominence, with subsequent chiefs becoming Earls of Argyll. In 1701, William of Orange elevated the 10th Earl to a Dukedom, further solidifying the clan's status. However, the 9th Earl met a tragic end in 1685 when he was executed for his role in the Monmouth Rebellion. Throughout their history, the Campbells were deeply involved in state affairs, holding key positions such as the Hereditary Lord Justice General and Admiral of the Western Coasts and Isles of Scotland.
Color Scheme and Pattern
The Campbell Hebridean Tartan is a refined and classic design that features a deep, rich color palette representative of the rugged Hebridean landscapes. The tartan primarily consists of dark green and navy blue, creating a subdued yet sophisticated appearance. These colors are arranged in a traditional tartan grid, with black, yellow and white stripes adding a touch of contrast and brightness, highlighting the intricate pattern. Made from 100% acrylic wool, this tartan offers durability and comfort, making it the perfect choice for traditional Scottish garments such as kilts, jackets, and scarves.
