Blair Ancient Tartan

Clan Blair is an armigerous clan. This means that the clan's family or names are registered in the Court of Lord Lyon and do not have a leader recognized in the Lyon Court. The word "Blair " refers to the genitive of an ancient Gaelic term, "Blair '' meaning field or battlefield field.
Blair is likely to be an ancestor of Norman origin or possibly Barony close to Uphill, West Lothian. The document was signed in the presence of Stephen de Blare in 1204 for the monastery at Arb oath. Blair Castle served as the home for Blair Castle the seat of the Blair Clan for more than 800 years. However, it is now known as Blair House, not to be confused with Blair Castle in Blair Athol.
The initial portion of the castle was constructed in the year 1105; however, additional extensions were added in the 1600s, 1200s, and 1800s.
