Historical Significance
The Fraser Clan's history begins with Simon Fraser, the first Fraser recorded in Scotland around 1160, holding lands in Keith, East Lothian. The name "Fraser" is believed to have originated from the French "de Fresel" or "de Friselle," introduced during the 12th century. The Frasers became known for their loyalty to Scotland, notably through Simon Fraser of Lovat, who fought alongside William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, saving Bruce’s life three times. The Fraser clan's motto, "Je Suis Prest" (I Am Ready), reflects their readiness and courage. Over centuries, the Frasers have been embroiled in various conflicts, including the Jacobite risings, where they played significant roles. The clan is also recognized for its association with regiments like the Black Watch and the Lovat Scouts. The Fraser tartan, made famous in popular culture through the "Outlander" series, symbolizes the clan's enduring legacy. Today, the Fraser diaspora is global, with a strong presence in Canada and the USA. The current Chief is Fraser of Lovat, with Lady Saltoun as the head of the senior branch.
