Aiton Tartan

The Aiton family also spelled Ayton, is a Scottish Border clan with a long and distinguished history. The name derives from the lands of Ayton in Berwickshire, situated near the River Eye. The family played a significant role in the region's history, and their lands were at various times held by both the Scottish and English crowns. The Aiton name is derived from the Ayton lands located in Berwickshire, with the town of Ayton situated on the River Eye. Steffan, the nephew of Swan de CEitun, granted land in Wytefeld to the Priory of Coldingham around 1170. The Aiton family motto is "Roses plucked will give a charming smell". Dolphinus de eit and HeI de edition were witnesses to a charter signed by Walthers, the earl of Dunbar in 1166, while Elya de Eytone and Stephen de Eytona were witnesses to the charter of Patrick 1st Earl of Dunbar (1189-99). As a sept of the Clan Hume/Home, Aiton wears the tartan of that clan, with green, red, and light blue hues. The Aiton tartan is of superior quality and incredibly smooth to the touch.
The Aiton motto is "Roses plucked will give a charming smell," a poetic expression of the clan's belief in the power of beauty and elegance. The Aitons were also closely associated with the Hume/Home clan and were considered one of their septs. The Aiton tartan features a rich combination of green, red, and light blue hues, representing the clan's connection to the land and the natural world. The tartan is known for its smooth texture and high quality, made from 100% acrylic wool.
