Reinforced stitching at the pocket corners and strap anchors is where cheaper utility kilts fail first, because a loaded pocket puts all its weight on a few square centimetres of seam. Metal hardware throughout rather than plastic clips is the other difference. Expect years of regular use rather than a season.

Size it at the natural waist and wear a proper kilt belt over it. Loaded cargo pockets pull downward and outward, and a strap alone will migrate over a day. A wide belt spreads that load across the waist and stops the whole garment creeping. Do not size up to compensate, because a loose kilt shifts more, not less.
