Historical Context
The Morrison clan is a venerable Scottish Highland lineage, tracing its roots to the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Derived from the Gaelic term MacGilleMhoire, meaning "son of the servant of Mary," this clan ranks among Scotland's oldest, dating back to the 14th century. Initially based in Ness, the Morrisions expanded their influence across Lewis and the mainland. Their prominence grew through involvement in pivotal historical events, including the Wars of Scottish Independence, where they fought on both sides. Recorded officially by Lord Lyon on January 3, 1968, the Morrison Hunting Ancient Tartan is emblematic of the clan’s rich heritage, with origins noted as far back as a handwritten reference from 1747. The clan played a significant role in the Jacobite uprisings, with many Morrisons rallying for Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Tartan Description
The Morrison Hunting Ancient Tartan showcases a muted palette of greens, blues, and browns, interspersed with a prominent black stripe that runs through the center, creating an asymmetrical pattern. The colors symbolize the natural landscapes of Scotland, reflecting the clan's deep connection to their homeland. Crafted from 100% acrylic wool, this tartan offers both durability and comfort, making it an ideal choice for everyday wear.
