The MacDonald of Ardnamurchan Tartan has deep historical roots tracing back to the 12th century when Somerled, the legendary founder of Clan Donald, expelled Norsemen from the Western Isles. His execution in 1164 by King Malcolm IV marked a tumultuous period in Scottish history. The clan continued to thrive under the leadership of figures such as John, brother of Angus Og, who supported Robert the Bruce and became "Lord of the Isles" in 1354. Noteworthy events include the 1411 Battle of Harlow, where the 2nd Lord defended his claims to the Earldom of Ross, and the official recognition of the title in 1430. This tartan is a symbol of pride and heritage for the clan, woven with meticulous craftsmanship in Scotland.
