Elphinstone Tartan

The Elphinstone clan is a Scottish clan that traces its origins back to the medieval period. The clan's origins are believed to have started in the mid-13th century with a man named William de Abernethy. The Elphinstone family's roots trace back to the de Earths, a family from Stirlingshire that established their stronghold in Airth. The family later acquired lands in East Lothian close to Tranent and named it Elphinstone after their family name. The Elphinstones had close ties to the Scottish monarchy and served as trusted advisors to the kings. Sir Alexander Elphinstone was a close friend of King James VI and was appointed as one of his principal Secretaries of State. During the 15th century, the Elphinstone clan became more prominent, and they were involved in several key battles in Scottish history, including the Battle of Flodden in 1513.
The Elphinstone were supporters of Mary, Queen of Scots, and fought alongside her at the Battle of Langside in 1568. However, during the 17th century, the clan lost much of its power and influence. The Elphinstone tartan is a modern tartan that was designed in the 1980s. The tartan features a base of navy blue and green, with thin red and white stripes running through it. The colors were chosen to represent the Scottish landscape, with green representing the hills and forests, blue representing the sky and sea, and red and white stripes representing the colors of the Scottish flag. Today, the Elphinstone clan is still active, and there are many descendants of the clan living in Scotland and around the world. The Elphinstone tartan is worn by members of the clan at various events and celebrations, and it is a symbol of the clan's rich history and heritage.
