Historical Significance
The Earl of St Andrews tartan, named after the Duke of Kent, carries a rich heritage intertwined with British royal history. This title, among the oldest in the royal family, connects to the Duke's lineage dating back to the Norman Conquest of 1066. The tartan design offers a classic aesthetic that resonates with Scotland's lush landscapes and coastal waters, symbolized by its vibrant shades of red, green, and blue, accentuated by a dramatic black overcheck. This tartan not only celebrates the legacy of the Duke of Kent but also honors St Andrew, Scotland's patron saint, whose name reflects strength and masculinity through its Gaelic forms, Aindrea and Anndra. The Maxwell family's historical significance adds another layer of pride to this tartan, recognized as a symbol of tradition and cultural heritage.
Color Scheme & Pattern
This tartan features a combination of deep teal, black, and white stripes in a traditional check pattern. The teal represents the waters or skies of the Scottish highlands, evoking a sense of tranquility and nature. The black conveys strength and stability, while the white stripes introduce clarity and balance to the design. The classic crisscross arrangement of broad and narrow bands gives it a timeless, elegant look, suitable for both formal and casual attire.
