Historical Significance
The concept of a "clan" is a uniquely Scottish one, referring to a large extended family that shares a common surname and heritage. The Scottish clan system has a rich and complex history that dates back to the Middle Ages, when the country was divided into numerous small kingdoms and territories. The origin of the Clark Tartan is intriguing; originally, the name "Clark" described someone part of a religious community or earning a living through writing, rather than a family name. This term was popular throughout the Lowlands until the 15th century when it became a surname, with notable figures like Robert Clark, a shipmaster of Leith in 1446, establishing its familial roots. The clans were formed to provide protection in a volatile landscape, evolving into powerful political and social entities. The Clark clan, believed to have originated from a Norman knight in the 12th century, has since flourished across Scotland and beyond.
Color Scheme & Pattern
The Clark Tartan features a distinctive pattern of blue, black, and white stripes. The deep blue symbolizes loyalty and calmness, while the black represents strength and resilience. The white lines provide a sense of clarity and contrast, enhancing the overall design. This tartan is made from 100% acrylic wool, ensuring both durability and comfort for the wearer. Its timeless pattern makes it a versatile choice for both traditional and modern attire.
