Historical Context
The Murray clan is one of the oldest and most prominent clans in Scotland, believed to have originated from the region of Moray, known as "Mauri," meaning "dark-skinned." Notably, the Murray of Atholl clan acquired their lands in 1283, with the 12th Chief of Atholl becoming an Earl in 1606.
