The tartan of the family was created in Jura's MacGills of Jura and was used before 1745. However, when tartan was banned, the sett appeared to have disappeared until it was found in Kintyre and put inside Kintyre's Museum of Antiquities (now incorporated into the National Museum of Scotland in Chambers St., Edinburgh). T9ijhhe present version, which first was released around 1930 is referred to in Macgill Society tartan. The sample is in the STA Dalgety Collection. The most appealing MacGill Modern Tartan is one of the Highland clans. It is the dark red background that is framed by horizontal and vertical lighter green and yellow lines separated by navy shaded stripes. The lines and stripes cross one another.
