These clans were all established in the same region of Scotland and were in possession of the greater part of the district of Cowal. They were established on a strip of land along Loch Fyne between the lands of the Lamonts to the south and those of the MacLachlans to the north. The clan's motto is "Reviresco," which means "I grow strong again," and "Dieu premier servi," which means "I serve God first." These mottos reflect the clan's resilience and devotion to their faith.
