Gow Hunting Modern Tartan

The clan with a rich history and unique tartan is the Clan Gow. The origins of the clan are somewhat uncertain, but it is believed to have originated in the Aberdeenshire area of Scotland. The name "Gow" is derived from the Gaelic word for "smith," indicating that the clan may have been known for its blacksmithing skills. The first recorded mention of the Clan Gow dates back to the early 15th century when a John Gou or Gow was recorded as the baillie (a local official) of Aberdeen. The Clan Gow has a rich history that spans centuries and stretches across Scotland. While they primarily inhabited the area around Inverness, the Gows also had a presence in the city of Perth, specifically in the Perthshire city of Inver close to Dunkeld Inver. It was here, in 1727, that Neil Gow was born. He would go on to become one of the most well-known figures in Scottish history, renowned for his skills as a fiddler and composer.
Neil Gow's fame allowed him to obtain a unique tartan, distinct from the tartan of his family. This was due in part to the influence of the famous Scottish painter Sir Henry Raeburn, who depicted Gow in one of his paintings wearing a tartan that had never before been seen. The tartan became known as the Gow Hunting Modern Tartan and has since become a popular choice for those who wish to celebrate their Scottish heritage. Over the centuries, the Clan Gow grew in power and influence, and its members became involved in many notable events in Scottish history. For example, during the Jacobite uprising of 1715, the clan supported the Hanoverian side, which ultimately proved successful. During the American Revolution, a number of members of the clan fought on the side of the British.
