Arbuthnot Modern Tartan

The land of Arbuthnot was believed to be in the hands belonging to the Swinton family during the time of William I of Scotland. The first time we have heard of the family taking the name Arbuthnot was in 1355, with Philip de Arbuthnot described as "of that ilk'. The Tartan was registered at Lord Lyon in 1962. The Chief of the present clan is Keith Arbuthnot, 17th Viscount of Arbuthnot. Over 35 generations of Arbuthnot have resided in Arbuthnot House and there is an original charter that dates back to 16 May 1542 that grants the barony and land from Arbuthnot in the name of Robert Arbuthnot and his heirs.
